I penned There's a River Down in Texas for my family and two best friends. Using a personal computer, paper cutter, and some glue, I was able to fashion a homemade trade paperback which I gave as Christmas gifts in 1999. As it was loaned out, others wanted copies of their own, and over the next two years I made and sold over seven hundred.
Following a title change and the addition of fifty new pages, River Season was sold to Penguin Putnam Inc. in 2002. In July 2003, it was released as a Viking hardcover, and in September 2004 as a Penguin paperback.
